WINTER DANCE PARTY: THE TOUR FROM HELL - PRELUDE

The late Buddy Holly's glasses had been missing for more than 20 years when Iowa Sheriff Jerry Allen came upon them in a misfiled envelope in the basement of the courthouse. As a part of this episode, I spoke with Sheriff Allen's daughter Jennifer about that discovery and its aftermath.

This episode serves as a prelude to what comes next: beginning on Thursday, January 23, we’re going to go on that fateful tour with Buddy Holly and the others, with an episode per day from January 23rd to February 3rd, one for each show, as we follow those young pioneers of rock and roll on their ill-fated journey, a terribly planned criss-crossing tour of the Midwest: The Tour From Hell.

In 2014 a certain record sold on ebay for $14,000. The lucky seller purchased the album at a Goodwill in New Hampshire for $1.00. As it turned out, very few copies existed because the majority of whatever had been pressed had most likely been shipped straight to a landfill by the label as a shady tax write off. And this wasn't a one-off scam.

AND HOWE! BAD COMPANY GONE GOOD

In BJ's opinion Bad Company were, well...bad. That is, until Brian Howe replaced singer Paul Rodgers in the mid-eighties. Then they were kind of good, for awhile. On this episode BJ tells the story of the band's awkward transition from the seventies to the eighties, and counts down his top ten favorite Bad Company songs...with Brian Howe.

DEATH SS: HORROR OR COMEDY?

 

Death SS were an Italian metal band formed in 1977. They performed whilst clad in the most basic children's Halloween costumes. How many in the audience were laughing? None, according to the band's less than modest "visionary," Steve Sylvester, who wrote a book about the band's early days called The Necromancer of Rock. BJ got his hands on a copy.
