Enjoyed the episode. Pretty much in agreement with you and your panel. Once great band that just seems to have lost their mojo (or is just content with current blandness). Not magnetic.
My favorite album is Superstar Carwash. It kinda sounded like most on the show under-rate that album IMO. "Girl Right Next To Me" is probably my favorite song by them. "On The Lie", "Fallin' Down", "Already There", "Cuz You're Gone"... great songs. Wish I could find that one on vinyl!
Simple fact - John can sing and looks good in videos, Robbie can't sing and doesn't look good in videos. By sing, I mean in a "commercial pop/rock" kind of way. I think you could always hear that John's guitar playing, singing, and song-writing was heading towards very hook-laden rock. What amazes me is that Robbie has hung around, half trying to fit in with the new look and sound, and half trying to stay true to their roots.
FINALLY. So stoked on this episode. I always get shit for loving the goo goo dolls and no one believes me when Talk about the first three albums. THANK YOU! I always wondered what Robbie was thinking and why he stayed in the band. Money train?
